Artist Statement:

Ultimately, Molly's desire is to provoke thought and foster a deeper appreciation for the subtle complexities of everyday life within the home.' Molly McNeany's art deeply interrogates the essence of home. Using collage, assemblage, and expanded painting techniques, she explores the overlooked beauty of commonplace materials like wood, wallpaper, and carpet. Her painterly marks evoke interior details such as skirting boards, curtains, or wood stains.

Alternating between wall- based imagery resembling wallpaper and extending onto the floor like a carpet or rug, she aims to interact with viewers and encourage awkward navigation. By infusing these ordinary elements with fresh significance, Molly challenges conventional perceptions of domestic environments. Her choice of muted, complementary colours echoes typical household colour schemes, creating a sense of familiarity and resonance.

Through her work, she elevates these materials to the forefront of artistic discourse, transforming mundane objects into subjects of contemplation. This visual dialogue prompts viewers to reconsider traditional notions of domesticity, inviting them to appreciate the subtle complexities of everyday life within the home as they are constructed and deconstructed within the work.
